What is Real-time?
A Real-time system may be described as follows: Sensors on board the bus, express boat or ferry transmit information about position, speed and other relevant details to a computer. The computer collates the information received and compares it with the times stated on the relevant timetables. If there are discrepancies with the timetable, a new and updated departure time is displayed to people waiting to travel. In the event of major service disruptions, a message is also published in the system. In brief, this is real-time. This system is now in place on the city buses in Tromsø and Harstad.
